Domains, Tracking & Email Deliverability
The domain-level setup that makes everything else work: tracking visitors on your site, proving your emails are legitimately yours, and diagnosing why tracking isn’t reporting.

Web tracking domains
⚠️ This requires a developer. Adding the JavaScript tracking code to your website needs someone comfortable with JavaScript.
To get the tracking code: go to System Settings > Domain Management, click Add Domain, and select Add Web Tracking Domain. Enter your website domain (without http:// or https://), click Generate Code, then copy the JavaScript and add it to your site’s master page template, typically just under the <body> tag on every page you want to track. Click Close once you’ve copied it. A status of OK in Domain Management confirms tracking is working.
Once tracking is in place, two things become possible. A visitor who fills out a form connected to a Form Handler becomes a Prospect, and the activity recorded while they were anonymous attaches to their new record. And Prospects who click a link in a Marketing email that leads to a tracked site are identified, with their page activity recorded.
ℹ️ Links must be added as actual hyperlinks, not pasted as plain text, or clicks aren’t tracked.

DNS and CNAME
DNS maps human-readable domain names to the IP addresses computers need, functioning as the internet’s phone book. A CNAME record is an alias pointing one domain at another, which is how a subdomain you own resolves to an Insightly service.
Both come up in two places: setting up a subdomain for landing pages, and configuring an email sending domain.
Email authentication: DKIM and SPF
DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) attaches a digital signature tied to your domain to every outgoing email. The receiving system verifies it against a public key published in your DNS, which proves the message genuinely came from your domain rather than someone forging your address.
SPF (Sender Policy Framework) publishes which servers are permitted to send on your domain’s behalf, so receiving systems can reject anything sent from elsewhere.
Both exist because forged sender addresses are the standard technique in phishing, and both directly affect whether your legitimate email reaches the inbox.
Viewing tracked data
A Prospect’s tracked activity, including form submissions, redirect link clicks, and browsing sessions, appears on the Timeline tab of their record.
Two reports cover anonymous visitor data, both under Visitor Reports in Advanced Reporting: Visitor Web Pages Viewed, which lists every unique page an anonymous visitor saw, and Visitor Web Page Activity, which adds detail like browser and operating system.

Troubleshooting click tracking
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| No clicks recorded at all | URLs were added as plain text rather than hyperlinks | Rebuild the link using the hyperlink button in the email content box. |
| Links not being tracked | The tracking domain was entered with a protocol prefix | Go to System Settings > Domain Management and confirm no Website Tracking Domain begins with http:// or https://. |
