General reporting questions
Which objects can I report on?
See Which objects can I use in reporting?. Custom objects and custom fields are reportable; custom object templates are in the Other Reports folder.
How do I email myself a report on a schedule?
Click Schedule above the report details, choose the user the report runs as, the recipients, and the frequency. Delivery times are UTC, not your local time zone. See Setting up a scheduled report.
Can I get an alert when a number crosses a threshold?
Yes, with a Smart Alert. The report needs at least one summary field. See Setting up a Smart Alert.
How do I export a report?
Run it, then Actions > Export to Excel or Export to CSV. A download link is emailed and stays valid for 30 days. Exports contain raw data only, and your user needs export permission. See Exporting a report.
How do I share a report with other users?
Save it into a folder with the right viewing permissions: Everyone, Only the record owner, or Select individual people. See Report Folders & Subfolders.
Why is my report empty, or missing records?
Usually the data or the filters: incomplete data entry, two AND conditions on a single-value field, or a static date where a relative date was intended. See Troubleshooting custom reports.
How do I filter on “last month” or “next quarter”?
Use a relative date value; it resolves each time the report runs. See Relative & annual date values.
My AND and OR filters give the wrong result. Why?
With three or more filters mixing AND and OR, the order of evaluation matters. Use the Filter Logic field to control it. See Filter logic.
Can I compare one field with another?
Yes, with a field-to-field filter, up to two per report, both fields of the same data type. See Field-to-field filters.
Can I report across linked objects?
Yes, through lookup relationship fields. See Lookup relationship fields in custom object reports.
Can I edit records from a report?
Yes, for Task, Lead, Call, Opportunity, Contact, Project, Organization, Product, Price Books, Quotes, and custom objects. See Bulk editing from a report.
How do I copy a report?
Actions > Copy This Report, or Save as from the editor. See Copying a report.
Can I report on who changed what?
Yes, with the Field History and Field History Detail reports. See The Field History reports.
